Drone roof survey in Coombe

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you are worried about cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we are surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy, in Coombe as anywhere. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Practical tips

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Leave it or get it looked at?

From the ground, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

How it works

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit typically takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Surveys in Coombe can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Coombe questions

Is drone flying allowed in Coombe?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Coombe?

Usually it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found.

For landlords and managing agents

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

When to book a survey in Coombe

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters

As a London address, Coombe can be tricky for parking: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book, as a space near the door cannot be promised.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Will the report include photos?

What a good roof survey covers

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

Airspace, weather and Coombe roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Take an older house close to Church Hall United Reformed Church Of St Paul: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building like Coombe Wood School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
