Drone roof survey in Crossbush: what you get

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. If you’ve noticed tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and blocked valleys and parapet gutters, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a village or hamlet like Crossbush, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Drone roof surveys in Crossbush: local notes

Crossbush lies within about 3 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Historic houses like Ecclesden Manor, about 3 miles east, show how far back building around Crossbush goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. The streets around a church such as The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalen are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Littlehampton Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Crossbush is about 2 miles north of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. Roofs in Crossbush get the same thorough look as anywhere else in West Sussex. Crossbush is one of the towns and villages in West Sussex where we work. For surveys nearby, see our Brighton page.

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

What a survey costs

We confirm the price for your survey before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The size of the roof
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How it works

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes an hour or two at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. For a village or hamlet like Crossbush, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you’re ready.

Questions from Crossbush

Do you cover smaller places like Crossbush?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Is drone flying allowed in Crossbush?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

What happens next?

You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Crossbush

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time.
