Independent drone roof surveys in Dippenhall

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Dippenhall

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. We survey chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are blocked valleys and parapet gutters and ridge pieces that have lifted.

Some older homes in villages like Dippenhall are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Dippenhall questions

How do I find out if my home in Dippenhall is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Are there drone restrictions around Dippenhall?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain doesn’t typically stop a survey. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we will arrange another day with you.

Honest limits

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Flying and imaging in Dippenhall

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Historic houses such as Farnham Castle, about 1.4 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Dippenhall goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

Take a building like Potters Gate CofE Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Dippenhall is about 2 miles west of Farnham, in Surrey. In Dippenhall, as across Surrey, every roof gets the same careful survey. Dippenhall is one of the places in Surrey we cover. Guildford is in our area too.

Postcode districts we cover here for drone roof surveys: GU10. Close by, we survey roofs in Dora's Green (1 mile north), Warren Corner (2 miles north), Hog Hatch (2 miles north-east), Redlands (2 miles north-west) and Crondall (2 miles north-west). Larger places within reach include Guildford (11 miles east), Woking (13 miles north-east), Camberley (9 miles north-east), Frimley (8 miles north-east), Haslemere (10 miles south-east) and Ash (5 miles north-east).

Leave it or get it looked at?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Around Dippenhall, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What we’re asked to look at in Dippenhall

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

The streets around a church such as St Francis are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What’s in a roof survey

What happens on the day

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Dippenhall can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
