How a drone roof survey works in Droxford
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are debris building up in hidden gutters and eroded pointing on a chimney stack.
Older buildings in small places like Droxford may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- A structural engineer’s report
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
DIY checks: what’s safe
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
How the survey works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere as small as Droxford, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Airspace, weather and Droxford roofs
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Droxford Junior School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

FAQs for Droxford
Is my home in Droxford listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you cover smaller places like Droxford?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
What do I do with the report?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
Landlords, agents and building managers in Droxford and across Hampshire can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What we are asked to look at in Droxford
From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary and All Saints: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before you book anyone
- Which limits apply to the survey
- What experience they bring
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
Leave it or get it looked at?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. Older and listed buildings around Droxford may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Why us?
