About our drone roof survey in Dunbridge
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. If you’re worried about flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and wind damage high on the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a village or hamlet like Dunbridge, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

Other services in Dunbridge
Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
What we are asked to look at in Dunbridge
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
If you live in an older home near Church of St Andrew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
What to check before booking
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- What they will not be able to tell you
- Are they insured for the work?
Practical tips
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Let us know what you want to see
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
Drone roof surveys in Dunbridge: local notes
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
Mottisfont Abbey, about 0.7 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Dunbridge. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. Anyone responsible for a site like Awbridge Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

The survey, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it usually takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Dunbridge, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Related advice
Dunbridge: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Dunbridge?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Dunbridge listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when you book.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What does the report include?
A report with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How experienced are you?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
