Common questions in Stonymarsh
Are there drone restrictions around Stonymarsh?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stonymarsh?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
What’s the best way to book?
It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we will take it from there. Surveys run seven days a week.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Is Stonymarsh in your area?
Yes, we do. Stonymarsh is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
Drone roof survey in Stonymarsh
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are flashings that have come away and blocked valleys and parapet gutters.
In a village or hamlet like Stonymarsh, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What else we do in Stonymarsh
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The shape of the roof and its details
- How big the roof is
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.
What we need to know
A little information up front helps. It helps to include:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The address and postcode of the property
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- When you need the report by
We survey roofs on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Stonymarsh
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Older and listed buildings around Stonymarsh may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
What you can safely check yourself
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What happens on the day
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Around Stonymarsh, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Let us know where we can park nearby

If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
Take an older house close to Church of St Andrew: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
