Common questions in Kimbridge
Are there drone restrictions around Kimbridge?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Kimbridge?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
How long will you be at the property?
Most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We’ll confirm the timing when booking.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Will I get photos?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.
What’s the best way to book?

How a drone roof survey works in Kimbridge
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in strong wind or a downpour, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed eroded pointing on a chimney stack and loose ridge and hip tiles, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Older buildings in small places like Kimbridge may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What happens on the day
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit typically takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a small place like Kimbridge, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice
Why get it checked now?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Older and listed buildings around Kimbridge may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Checking the roof from the ground
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Kimbridge
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
Take a building like Awbridge Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Andrew, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Historic houses such as Mottisfont Abbey, about 0.9 miles north, show how far back building around Kimbridge goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
