Drone roof survey in Felbridge: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Felbridge and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Common reasons to book are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and lead work pulling away at abutments, on flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs.

Some older homes in villages like Felbridge are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How the survey changes by roof type

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. A drone avoids that, so the survey doesn’t add damage.

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is typically out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Felbridge?

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below

The streets around a church such as St John's Felbridge are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • How long the report takes to arrive

What a roof survey includes

What a survey costs

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How big the roof is
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

Booking your survey

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Felbridge questions

Is my home in Felbridge listed or in a conservation area?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Felbridge?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when booking.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

How do I book a survey in Felbridge?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The survey, step by step

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a village or hamlet like Felbridge, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

When you need someone else

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Leave it or get it looked at?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. In a place like Felbridge, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Felbridge

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Older houses across Sussex frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Take a building like Felbridge Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Saint Hill Manor lies about 2.5 miles south-east, so building around Felbridge goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Felbridge is about 2 miles north-west of East Grinstead, in West Sussex. We provide drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Felbridge and nearby. Our area takes in places right across West Sussex, large and small. We also survey roofs in Crawley.
