Finstock questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Finstock?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is Finstock within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How long is the visit?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
About our drone roof survey in Finstock
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. If you’ve noticed loose ridge and hip tiles and blocked valleys and parapet gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Some older homes in villages like Finstock are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Finstock
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
What we do, step by step
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Finstock can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Advice
What happens if roof problems are left?
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Older and listed buildings around Finstock may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Airspace, weather and Finstock roofs
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
If you look after a building like Finstock Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. The streets around a church such as Church of the Holy Trinity are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Minster Lovell Hall, about 3.8 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Finstock. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.

How we price drone roof surveys
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Helping us price your survey
These details help when you get in touch:

- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details.
DIY checks: what’s safe
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.
