Drone roof surveys in Five Oaks

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Five Oaks

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you’re worried about blocked valleys and parapet gutters and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Somewhere as small as Five Oaks, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Drones, thermal imaging and Five Oaks roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like The Weald School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What happens if roof problems are left?

From ground level, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. For an older or listed building in a place like Five Oaks, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

FAQs for Five Oaks

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Five Oaks?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you cover smaller places like Five Oaks?

Yes, Five Oaks is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

What insurance do you have?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

What will the report tell me?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain doesn’t normally stop a survey. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

When you need someone else

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks

What you can safely check yourself

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Five Oaks

Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

For any home in Five Oaks, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

Before you book anyone

  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • What insurance they carry
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely

Practical tips

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

What we do, step by step

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey typically takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Five Oaks, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
