Drone roof survey in Harlesden: what you get
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. Typical surveys look at eroded pointing on a chimney stack and standing water on a flat roof, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we can’t see
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Why get it checked now?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. In Harlesden, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
Why us?

Flying and imaging in Harlesden
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of All Souls, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For a London address like Harlesden, it’s useful to know about controlled parking before the day. If you look after a building like John Keble CofE Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Common questions in Harlesden
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Harlesden?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Harlesden?
It can be, so it’s useful to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking. That way the visit can be planned around it.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain does not typically stop a survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
The survey, step by step
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In Harlesden, as in much of London, plenty of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know as you book.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked

Related advice
What we look for on each type of roof
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Walking on fragile coverings can break them. A drone avoids that, so the survey does not add damage.

Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Check the loft can be reached
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
