Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Harmondsworth
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and people most frequently book us about worn lead at chimneys and walls and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Harmondsworth, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Drone roof surveys in Harmondsworth: local notes
Harmondsworth is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it is given. Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. If your home in Harmondsworth is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Harmondsworth, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. As a London address, Harmondsworth can be tricky for parking: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book, as a space near the door cannot be promised.

Why act early in Harmondsworth
It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photos of every part we can see. You can tackle the urgent items first. In Harmondsworth, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below, which can lead to damp inside. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.

FAQs for Harmondsworth
How do I find out if my home in Harmondsworth is listed?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Harmondsworth?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when booking.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We don’t fly in strong wind or a downpour. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If it’s unsuitable, we’ll agree another date.
What if my home is near an airport?
Near airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it’s needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
On site, it normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
In some places, only with permission. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. Every address is checked first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
What happens on the day
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Harmondsworth we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Advice
Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Tips that help
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are frequently seen by nobody. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
