What happens on the day

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Heathrow, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Drone roof survey in Heathrow: what you get

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. If you’ve noticed cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and wind damage high on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs alike.

Some older homes in villages like Heathrow are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Can I check my roof myself?

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Heathrow questions

Do you cover smaller places like Heathrow?

Yes, Heathrow is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is drone flying allowed in Heathrow?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport covers Heathrow, or comes right up to its edge. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Heathrow

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • The roof’s overall size
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT.

Helping us price your survey

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Heathrow

The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport covers Heathrow, or comes right up to its edge. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it is given. Within a mile and a half or so of Heathrow there are several hotels. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

Osterley House, about 4.6 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Heathrow. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. Anyone responsible for a site like Bedfont Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Heathrow is about 2 miles north-west of Feltham, in Surrey. Roofs in Heathrow get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Surrey. We cover towns and villages across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages. There’s also a page for London.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We will say if a specialist is needed.

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Heathrow. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

What we’re asked to look at in Heathrow

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are frequently invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

Shop and office owners around Treaty Centre may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.
