Drone roof survey in Stanwell
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We are often asked to look into gaps where slates or tiles have gone and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, on tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Around Stanwell, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Height and safe access
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
Helping us price your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- What’s prompted the survey
Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or email us. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
How the survey changes by roof type
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
Drone roof surveys around Stanwell
The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport covers Stanwell, or comes right up to its edge. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Stanwell means lost rooms as well as repairs. If you look after a building such as Stanwell Fields CofE Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Stanwell
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Which limits apply to the survey
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Their report turnaround times
What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes an hour or two at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Parking around Stanwell is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
Getting a price
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.
Advice
Stanwell questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stanwell?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Is drone flying allowed in Stanwell?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport covers Stanwell, or comes right up to its edge. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
What happens after the survey?
You will receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
Do you work in Stanwell?
Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Stanwell, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
