Drone roof survey in Hartfordbridge

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. Common reasons to book are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, across tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks.

Older buildings in small places like Hartfordbridge may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Hartfordbridge: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Hartfordbridge is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Will you come out to Hartfordbridge?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

How quickly is the report sent?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

We point the camera at your roof only. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible, and flights are kept short. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only if it’s safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Drone roof surveys in Hartfordbridge: local notes

Blackbushe Airport is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Hart Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. For an older house near a landmark like All Souls Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Practical tips

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What we cannot see

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs

How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Hartfordbridge, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Hartfordbridge

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Typical things we’re asked to look at include:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Oakwood Infant School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What a roof survey includes

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
