Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Heath End

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are eroded pointing on a chimney stack and slipped or missing slates on a high roof.

In a village or hamlet like Heath End, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Roof by roof

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roofs on tall buildings are frequently seen by nobody. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

What we cannot see

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

Heath End: your questions answered

Is my home in Heath End listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Will you come out to Heath End?

Yes. Heath End is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We inspect only the roof you’ve asked about. If your roof is shared, it is useful to tell your neighbours about the visit.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Near airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Checking the roof from the ground

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Let us know what you want to see

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Drones, thermal imaging and Heath End roofs

Farnborough Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The wider area around Heath End has a long history of building, with Farnham Castle about 1.4 miles south-west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.

If you run a business near Hart Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most. Take an older house close to St Mark the Evangelist Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Common roof problems in Heath End

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters

If you look after a building such as Farnham Heath End School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • When you will get the report
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Their track record with similar roofs

What a good roof survey covers

The survey, step by step

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take an hour or two at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Cottages and farmhouses around Heath End often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
