How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are worn lead at chimneys and walls and vegetation in valleys and gutters.

In a small place like Hale, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hale

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Within a mile and a half or so of Hale there are several hotels, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Farnham Castle lies about 1.1 miles south-west, so building around Hale goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near The Church of St John the Evangelist, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Hale is about 1 mile north of Farnham, in Surrey. Roofs in Hale get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Surrey. Hale is one of the towns and villages in Surrey where we work. Our Guildford page covers surveys nearby.

All of GU9 is within our area for drone roof surveys. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Fairview Gardens, Farnborough Road and White Cottage Close. We also cover Heath End (1 mile north), Weybourne (1 mile north-east), Upper Hale (1 mile north-west), Badshot Lea (1 mile east) and Farnham (1 mile south). Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (9 miles east), Woking (11 miles north-east), Camberley (8 miles north), Frimley (6 miles north), Haslemere (10 miles south) and Cranleigh (15 miles south-east).

The survey, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere as small as Hale, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Booking a survey

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

Hale questions

Will you come out to Hale?

Yes, Hale is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Hale?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access as you book.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

What’s in the report?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

Before and after the survey

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

What affects the price in Hale

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The size of the roof
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

What we need to know

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or email us to find out.

When to book a survey in Hale

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

For hotels and guest houses around Hale, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • What follow-up you get after the report
