Drone roof survey in Upper Hale, Surrey
Drone roof surveys in Upper Hale from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
What a drone roof survey does not cover
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
How a drone roof survey works in Upper Hale
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and plant growth and moss on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.
Around Upper Hale, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Drone roof surveys in Upper Hale: local notes
Farnborough Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Take an older house close to St Mark the Evangelist Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Historic houses like Farnham Castle, about 1.1 miles south, show how far back building around Upper Hale goes. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Anyone responsible for a site like Hale School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Common questions in Upper Hale
Are there drone restrictions around Upper Hale?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Farnborough Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Will you come out to Upper Hale?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain is normally fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone cannot fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.
What a survey costs
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The size of the roof
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
Booking your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The address and postcode of the property
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
Once you know what you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
Why get it checked now?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is. On a bungalow or cottage around Upper Hale, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Why us?
- Two decades and more of roof surveys
- Weekday and weekend surveys
- Clear package prices, including VAT
- Insured for professional indemnity and public liability
How it works
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, emailed to you. On timing, it usually takes between one and two hours for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. A visit to a smaller place like Upper Hale is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
