Independent gutter surveys in Hale

What we look for on each type of roof

Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters

We check the lining, the joints and the outlets where it’s safe to see them. Lead is also a target for theft.

Plastic (uPVC) gutters

Joints that have pulled apart are a common fault on plastic gutters. The report notes every one we spot.

About our gutter survey in Hale

We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Hale and right across London and South East England. We inspect everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows and from the loft space. A visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. We survey parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and valley gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are choked outlets or hopper heads and rotten fascias or stained soffits.

In a village or hamlet like Hale, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it is usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the gutter, with photos, useful for planning maintenance.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Hale

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. With Farnham Castle about 1.1 miles south-west, Hale sits in an area with a long building history. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Take an older house close to The Church of St John the Evangelist: corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. If you own a rental within reach of Farnham station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. If you live near a park like Weybourne LNR, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

Hale is about 1 mile north of Farnham, in Surrey. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Hale can all book gutter surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Hale is one of the towns and villages in Surrey we cover for gutter surveys. There’s also a page for Guildford.

Surveys in GU9 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include Fairview Gardens, Farnborough Road and White Cottage Close, all of which we cover. If you are just outside Hale, we cover Heath End (1 mile north), Weybourne (1 mile north-east), Upper Hale (1 mile north-west), Badshot Lea (1 mile east) and Farnham (1 mile south). Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (9 miles east), Woking (11 miles north-east), Camberley (8 miles north), Frimley (6 miles north), Haslemere (10 miles south) and Cranleigh (15 miles south-east).

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Weybourne LNR, William Cobbett Primary School and The Six Bells pub, among other places. The nearest railway station is Farnham station, roughly 1.3 miles south. Other landmarks nearby include Farnham Castle (1.1 miles south-west) and Museum of Farnham (1.4 miles south-west). For a walk, there is Farnham Park and Aunt's Pool.

When you need someone else

Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
  • Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
  • The inside of buried drains

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Valley gutters
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Eaves gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Downpipes

What affects the price in Hale

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we can help you choose.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What made you get in touch

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.

Common questions in Hale

Is my home in Hale listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Is Hale within the area you cover?

Yes. Hale is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Could my damp wall be caused by the gutters?

The survey looks at whether rainwater is spilling onto the wall from overflows, leaking joints or loose downpipes. We can’t see inside the wall itself, so we report on what’s visible.

Do you use drones?

Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Can you tell me if my old gutters contain asbestos?

No, that’s a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. We point out materials on older buildings that could contain asbestos so you can arrange that check.

How it works

Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes an hour or two at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Somewhere like Hale needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We ask about overflows, damp or leaks you’ve noticed.
  2. We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground and from windows.
  3. Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
  4. The loft space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
  5. The findings are written up with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Getting a price

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Advice

Useful tips for Hale property owners

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
  • Check the loft with care after heavy rain
  • Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
  • Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it

How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. It is sent to you by email once it is done.

Deal with drips, sags and loose downpipes early. They tend to get worse and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.
