What happens on the day

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. A visit to a smaller place like Holbury is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Drone roof survey in Holbury

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. Typical surveys look at ridge pieces that have lifted and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, on chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.

Places like Holbury can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Before and after the survey

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

Holbury questions

Will you come out to Holbury?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Holbury?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it can’t see under the coverings. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft space from inside.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

The flight waits for better weather. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

What insurance do you have?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Holbury?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Drones, thermal imaging and Holbury roofs

Holbury lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Beaulieu Palace House, about 2.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Holbury. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Holbury is about 2 miles south of Hythe, in Hampshire. Anywhere in Holbury, we can come and survey your property. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire. Southampton is in our area too.

Honest limits

We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

When to book a survey in Holbury

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Cadland Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What to check before booking

  • Will the report include photos?
  • What insurance they carry
  • What experience they bring
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
