Drone roof survey in Middle Aston

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. If you are worried about lead work pulling away at abutments and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs alike.

Older buildings in small places like Middle Aston may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What a survey costs

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • How big the roof is

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

How it works

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. For a village or hamlet like Middle Aston, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Book a survey

Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Related advice

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Drone roof surveys around Middle Aston

West Oxfordshire’s older buildings frequently carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.

Anyone responsible for a site like Dr Radcliffe's Church of England Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter and St Paul, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

FAQs for Middle Aston

How do I find out if my home in Middle Aston is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Middle Aston?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Will I get photos?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.

Will you check the loft?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. For older village homes like those around Middle Aston, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
