Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Minstead

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed gaps where slates or tiles have gone and lifted or split lead flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors alike.

Villages like Minstead frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

How we price drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Getting in touch

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • What made you get in touch
  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we’ll recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Minstead

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of All Saints, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Their report turnaround times

What a roof survey includes

How it works

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere as small as Minstead, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Common questions in Minstead

How do I find out if my home in Minstead is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Are there drone restrictions around Minstead?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long does the survey take?

It normally takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report follows by email.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when you book and we will explain what’s needed.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

Checking the roof from the ground

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Minstead

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Practical tips

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off

File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
