Drone roof survey in Mowshurst

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and debris building up in hidden gutters, we can find out what’s behind it.

Some older homes in villages like Mowshurst are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What we do, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. For a village or hamlet like Mowshurst, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Advice

What affects the price in Mowshurst

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Mowshurst

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey on any day of the week, which can make access easier.

Mowshurst questions

Is my home in Mowshurst listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you cover smaller places like Mowshurst?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

How do I book a survey in Mowshurst?

Simply call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

Drone roof surveys in Mowshurst: local notes

With Hever Castle about 2.3 miles south-east, Mowshurst sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter and St Paul are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Edenbridge Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Why get it checked now?

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. In a place like Mowshurst, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

Before and after the survey

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
