What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.

Drone roof survey in Pootings

We carry out drone roof surveys in Pootings and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We survey tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are lifted or split lead flashings and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

In a village or hamlet like Pootings, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

The survey, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older rural homes like those around Pootings can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Why act early in Pootings

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Pootings

About 1.4 miles north lies Chartwell, a reminder of how long the area around Pootings has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Anyone responsible for a site like Four Elms Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church like Congregational Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

For landlords and managing agents

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

Pootings questions

Is Pootings within the area you cover?

Yes, Pootings is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Is my home in Pootings listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but it cannot see under the coverings. Where there’s safe access, we check the roof space from inside.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Pootings?

To book, call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
