Why act early in New Barn
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Blocked gutters on homes around New Barn overflow and soak walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

Drone roof survey in New Barn
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Typical surveys look at vegetation in valleys and gutters and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, on chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Older cottages and houses around New Barn may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Do you need a drone roof survey in New Barn?
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
Problems we come across often include:
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
If you look after a building like Longfield Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Questions to ask before you book
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
Landlords, agents and block managers in New Barn
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out in order of urgency where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.

How the survey changes by roof type
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
New Barn questions
Is New Barn within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Is drone flying allowed in New Barn?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
What do I do with the report?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.
When does the report arrive?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

How the survey works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a smaller place like New Barn, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking before the day
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
