What a drone roof survey looks like in Nyton
Nyton lies within about 5 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Anyone responsible for a site like Ormiston Six Villages Academy will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. With Goodwood House about 3.6 miles north-west, the area around Nyton has a long history. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

How a drone roof survey works in Nyton
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’ve noticed slates or tiles shifted by high winds and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, we can find out what’s behind it, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs alike.
Villages like Nyton often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Nyton
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Older cottages and farmhouses around Nyton can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Nyton
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- The size of the roof
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Building height and the viewpoints available
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
FAQs for Nyton
Are there drone restrictions around Nyton?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Is my home in Nyton listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Will you check the loft?
Normally, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What else we do in Nyton
What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Nyton often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Let us know about parking before the day

Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
When you need someone else
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
