Drone roof survey in Poets Estate, Hertfordshire
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Poets Estate, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Standing water on a flat roof
Why act early in Poets Estate
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Poets Estate, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Drone roof survey in Poets Estate: what you get
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We do not fly in strong wind or a downpour, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are ridge pieces that have lifted and hidden gutters full of leaves.
In smaller places like Poets Estate, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from ground level.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Poets Estate: your questions answered
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Poets Estate?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Is Poets Estate within the area you cover?
Yes. Poets Estate is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Prices for drone roof surveys in Poets Estate
We confirm the price for your roof before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How big the roof is
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Getting in touch
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- What kind of property and roof it is
- What’s prompted the survey
Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Drones, thermal imaging and Poets Estate roofs
There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Poets Estate, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
For hotels and guest houses around Poets Estate, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do. If you look after a building like William Ransom Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Faith's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

When you need someone else
Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

The survey, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. A visit to a smaller place like Poets Estate is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
