What affects the price in Priddy's Hard

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Which survey package you book
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • How big the roof is

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price before you book.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Priddy's Hard

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and debris building up in hidden gutters.

Somewhere as small as Priddy's Hard, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Practical tips

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Let us know the exact address when you book
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

For landlords and managing agents

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Drones, thermal imaging and Priddy's Hard roofs

Priddy's Hard is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

Hotels and guest houses near Priddy's Hard cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Questions from Priddy's Hard

Is drone flying allowed in Priddy's Hard?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Priddy's Hard?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

What will the report tell me?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

What insurance do you have?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

How it works

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. For a village or hamlet like Priddy's Hard, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

When to book a survey in Priddy's Hard

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Tricorn Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.
