Drone roof survey in Ramsdell

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and cracked mortar along the ridge.

Villages like Ramsdell frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

How it works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Ramsdell can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming

Ramsdell: your questions answered

Are there drone restrictions around Ramsdell?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you cover smaller places like Ramsdell?

Yes, Ramsdell is covered. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Will I get photos?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

What this survey cannot tell you

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Helping us price your survey

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

To get a price for drone roof surveys in Ramsdell, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. The address, the type of property and what you want to find out help us price the survey accurately.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Ramsdell?

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack

If you look after a building such as The Priory Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Their report turnaround times
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Whether VAT is added on top

What to expect from a roof survey

What a drone roof survey looks like in Ramsdell

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. About 2.9 miles east lies The Vyne, a reminder of how long the area around Ramsdell has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to Christ Church: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
