Independent drone roof surveys in Rudgwick

Drone roof survey in Rudgwick: what you get

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are ridge pieces that have lifted and moss and weeds taking hold up top.

Villages like Rudgwick often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

How the survey works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Rudgwick needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Rudgwick

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, useful for planning maintenance.

Checking the roof from ground level

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Drone roof surveys around Rudgwick

In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

The streets around a church such as Holy Trinity Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Rudgwick Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Rudgwick is about 6 miles west of Horsham, in West Sussex. From houses to flats and shops in Rudgwick, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend. Across West Sussex, we cover Rudgwick and the places around it. Crawley is in our area too.

Why it is worth a survey now in Rudgwick

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It is useful for planning maintenance over the years. For an older or listed building in a place like Rudgwick, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

How the survey changes by roof type

Valleys and parapet gutters

Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

What this survey cannot tell you

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Rudgwick questions

Do you cover smaller places like Rudgwick?

Yes, Rudgwick is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is my home in Rudgwick listed or in a conservation area?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest.
