Drone roof surveys in Shootash

Should I look at the roof myself first?

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

How a drone roof survey works in Shootash

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed chimney tops in poor condition and outlets choked with leaves and silt, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks alike.

Some older homes in villages like Shootash are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

How it works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Older rural homes like those around Shootash can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Common questions in Shootash

How do I find out if my home in Shootash is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Shootash?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is Shootash in your area?

Yes. We cover Shootash and the rest of Hampshire. To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Shootash?

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You cannot see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves

Mottisfont Abbey, about 3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Shootash. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What to expect from a roof survey

Landlords, agents and block managers in Shootash

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.

Drones, thermal imaging and Shootash roofs

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Why it is worth a survey now in Shootash

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. Outbuildings and barns around Shootash are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
