How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes an hour or two for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a survey in South Ham, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Getting a price

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Drone roof survey in South Ham

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. We are often asked to look into debris building up in hidden gutters and chimney tops in poor condition, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors.

Places like South Ham can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

South Ham questions

Will you come out to South Ham?

Yes, South Ham is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Is drone flying allowed in South Ham?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

How long does the survey take?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report is sent afterwards by email.

What does the report include?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Drones, thermal imaging and South Ham roofs

Historic houses such as The Vyne, about 3.5 miles north, show how far back building in the area around South Ham goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Shop and office owners around The Malls may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Take an older house close to Saint Peter's Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What this survey cannot tell you

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

Do you need a drone roof survey in South Ham?

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

Take a building like St Anne's Catholic Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely

What to expect from a roof survey

How we price drone roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • Which survey package you book
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we can help you choose.

What to tell us when you get in touch

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Anything about access we should know
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.

Checking the roof from the ground

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
