What happens on the day

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take an hour or two at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Stanswood often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Stanswood

Drone roof surveys are available in Stanswood and throughout London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We survey large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and lifted or split lead flashings.

In a small place like Stanswood, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Stanswood

Landlords, agents and building managers in Stanswood and across Hampshire can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is typically out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

What we can’t see

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs

Tips from our surveys

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Stanswood: your questions answered

Is drone flying allowed in Stanswood?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stanswood?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Stanswood?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

What a survey costs

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • The size of the roof
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Helping us price your survey

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • When you need the report by
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Drone roof surveys in Stanswood: local notes

Stanswood is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.

For an older house near a landmark like St George, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. With Osborne House about 4.8 miles south-east, the area around Stanswood has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Stanswood is about 3 miles north-west of Cowes, in Hampshire. Bookings from Stanswood are handled just like any other: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire. Our Southampton page covers surveys nearby.
