Rented homes, blocks and businesses

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Staples Corner

We carry out drone roof surveys in Staples Corner and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on any day of the week. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us. Typical surveys look at cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and hidden gutters full of leaves, on valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and fragile roofs.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How it works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Surveys in Staples Corner can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it’s useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It is almost impossible to see from the ground, but it’s plain to see from the air.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book.

Airspace, weather and Staples Corner roofs

There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Staples Corner. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St John, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. With Heath House about 2.2 miles east, the area around Staples Corner has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What we are asked to look at in Staples Corner

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below

Shop and office owners around Brent Cross Shopping Centre may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Before booking anyone

  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection

What’s in a roof survey

Honest limits

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.
