About our drone roof survey in The Burroughs
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. Common reasons to book are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and outlets choked with leaves and silt, across tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in The Burroughs is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

For landlords and managing agents
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Why act early in The Burroughs
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Any roof job in The Burroughs means planning around parking, neighbours and access. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

What this survey cannot tell you
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Flying and imaging in The Burroughs
London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. If your home in The Burroughs is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Heath Hall, about 2.6 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around The Burroughs. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For businesses in and around places such as Brent Cross Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.
The Burroughs is about 2 miles south-east of Burnt Oak, in Greater London. We carry out drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in The Burroughs and nearby. Our Greater London coverage includes The Burroughs and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our London page.

Questions from The Burroughs
Does a conservation area affect roof work in The Burroughs?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Is drone flying allowed in The Burroughs?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.
What if it rains on the day?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions aren’t right, we will talk to you about another date.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Do you cover The Burroughs for drone roof surveys?
Yes. We cover The Burroughs and the rest of Greater London, as part of our work across London and the South East. To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Useful tips for The Burroughs property owners
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Tell us the exact address when you book
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

What we are asked to look at in The Burroughs
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.
We’re frequently asked to look at:
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Will the report include photos?
- What insurance they carry
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
The survey, step by step
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take an hour or two for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In The Burroughs, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Tell us where we can park nearby
