Drone roof surveys near Stonehill

Stonehill: your questions answered

Are there drone restrictions around Stonehill?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Fairoaks Airport is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you cover smaller places like Stonehill?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Are you insured?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Stonehill?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

About our drone roof survey in Stonehill

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about worn lead at chimneys and walls and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

Villages like Stonehill often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Flying and imaging in Stonehill

Stonehill is about 2 miles from Fairoaks Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. With Botleys Mansion about 1.4 miles north-east, Stonehill sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you live in an older home near Christ Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Salesian School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Peacocks, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs

Tips from our surveys

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

The survey, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Stonehill, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

What affects the price in Stonehill

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Roof area

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. We will confirm the figure before booking.

Getting in touch

Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:

  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • When you need the report by
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
