Drone roof survey in Stonor
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are chimney tops in poor condition and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
Older buildings in small places like Stonor may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Stonor
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
Take an older house close to Pishill Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
Before you book anyone
- How long the report takes to arrive
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- What exactly goes into their report
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
What a drone roof survey does not cover
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A structural engineer’s report
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Questions from Stonor
How do I find out if my home in Stonor is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Stonor?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.
What a survey costs
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Height and safe access
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Getting in touch
Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- What’s prompted the survey
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us some details about the property and we’ll point you to the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
What happens on the day
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a small place like Stonor, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice
Tips that help
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
How the survey changes by roof type
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Drones, thermal imaging and Stonor roofs
Historic houses like Stonor Park, about 0.5 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Stonor goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
