Drone roof survey in Stroud: what you get

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and people most often book us about lead work pulling away at abutments and moss and weeds taking hold up top.

In a village or hamlet like Stroud, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Stroud

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed in advance. Surveys run on any day of the week, which can make access easier.

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Honest limits

We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Prices for drone roof surveys in Stroud

To price your survey, we check:

  • Which survey package you book
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older roofs in small places like Stroud can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Let us know about parking before the day

How to book

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.

FAQs for Stroud

How do I find out if my home in Stroud is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Stroud?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

How do I book a survey in Stroud?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

Do you cover Stroud?

Yes. Stroud is part of the area we cover.

What if it rains on the day?

It depends on the weather and the survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Tips that help

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Stroud

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.

If you look after a building such as Langrish Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. For an older house near a landmark like Stroud Mission Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
