Drone roof survey in Stud Green, Windsor and Maidenhead
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Stud Green, and put it all in a report with photographs.
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Flashings that have come away
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
Drone roof survey in Stud Green
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. If you’re worried about lead work pulling away at abutments and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a village or hamlet like Stud Green, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Stud Green
How do I find out if my home in Stud Green is listed?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Stud Green?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. White Waltham Airfield is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How experienced are you?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
How fast do I get the report?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Are you insured?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
What we cannot see
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
Drone roof surveys around Stud Green
White Waltham Airfield is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Take a building like Holyport College: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Tips that help
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.
How it works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a hamlet or village like Stud Green, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
How to prepare
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- How big the roof is
- Which survey package you book
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What to tell us when you contact us
There’s no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- The address and postcode of the property
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
When you are ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.
When to book a survey in Stud Green
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
Dorney Court, about 2.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Stud Green. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- What the survey won’t cover
- How soon the report will arrive
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
