Drone roof surveys near Sulham

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Sulham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Check pets are kept safely away

How a drone roof survey works in Sulham

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about loose ridge and hip tiles and plant growth and moss on the roof.

In a small place like Sulham, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

FAQs for Sulham

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Sulham?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Will you come out to Sulham?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What insurance do you have?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.

What this survey can’t tell you

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.

Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Height and safe access
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The roof’s overall size

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Helping us price your survey

A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, tell us:

  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Drones, thermal imaging and Sulham roofs

Within a mile and a half or so of Sulham there are several hotels, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

With Mapledurham House about 2 miles north-east, the area around Sulham has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Sulham means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition. If you look after a building like Denefield School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Sulham is about 4 miles west of Reading, in Oxfordshire. From houses to flats and shops in Sulham, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend. Our area takes in places right across Oxfordshire, large and small.

We also cover Tidmarsh (1 mile west), Little Heath (1 mile south-east), Pangbourne (1 mile north-west), Purley on Thames (1 mile north-east) and Tilehurst (2 miles east). We also work in nearby towns like Didcot (12 miles north-west), Henley-on-Thames (8 miles north-east), Benson (11 miles north), Wallingford (10 miles north), Great Western Park (13 miles north-west) and Watlington (13 miles north).

Why get it checked now?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Around Sulham, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking.
