About our drone roof survey in Tidmarsh
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. Common reasons to book are ridge and hip pieces working loose and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, on large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.
Older buildings in small places like Tidmarsh may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Roof by roof
Large commercial roofs
Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
What else we do in Tidmarsh
What happens if roof problems are left?
On a tall building, problems are frequently found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Around Tidmarsh, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

Airspace, weather and Tidmarsh roofs
The wider area around Tidmarsh has a long history of building, with Mapledurham House about 2.5 miles north-east. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
If you look after a building such as Pangbourne Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. Hotels and guest houses near Tidmarsh cannot easily close rooms for a leak. Take an older house close to Church of St Laurence: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Tidmarsh is about 5 miles west of Reading, in Oxfordshire. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Tidmarsh can all book drone roof surveys. Across Oxfordshire, we cover Tidmarsh.
Surveys in RG8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Strachey Close and Tidmarsh Lane or a nearby road, we can survey it. If you are just outside Tidmarsh, we cover Sulham (1 mile east), Pangbourne (1 mile north), Whitchurch-on-Thames (1 mile north), Little Heath (2 miles south-east) and Englefield (2 miles south). Common questions in Tidmarsh
Are there drone restrictions around Tidmarsh?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Tidmarsh listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Do you look in the loft space?
Normally, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The loft space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.
How it works
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Tidmarsh, the journey is planned beforehand: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
