Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Summerstown
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a report with photographs. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are wind damage high on the roof and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Summerstown as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

Tips that help
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Let us know what you want to see
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Move stored items away from the hatch
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Make sure insulation does not block the airflow.
Questions from Summerstown
How do I find out if my home in Summerstown is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Summerstown?
It can be, so it is useful to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we will explain what’s needed.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Summerstown
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
Honest limits
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Drone roof surveys in Summerstown: local notes
The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 1 mile of Summerstown. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. With Southside House about 2.4 miles south-west, Summerstown sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building like Burntwood School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Parking in Summerstown, as in most of London, takes a little planning: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book.

What we do, step by step
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In Summerstown, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Leave side gates unlocked

How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.
