Drone roof survey in Tooting

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we will say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. Common reasons to book are standing water on a flat roof and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, on flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Questions from Tooting

Is drone flying allowed in Tooting?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Tooting is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Is my home in Tooting listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details as you book.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

Practical tips

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What we do, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. For a visit in Tooting, parking and access are the things to plan: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. We then look at what can safely be seen from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

What a drone roof survey looks like in Tooting

Tooting is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. With Southside House about 3 miles west, the area around Tooting has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself. If you run a business near Southside Wandsworth, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. For an older house near a landmark like St Augustine, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

What this survey cannot tell you

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

For landlords and managing agents

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed ahead of time. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends, which helps when tenants work during the week.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

Can I check my roof myself?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
