Three Mills questions
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Three Mills?
London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Three Mills?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Three Mills is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Do you work in Three Mills?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Three Mills included.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest.
How long is the visit?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report is sent afterwards by email.
About our drone roof survey in Three Mills
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs, and people most often book us about lifted or split lead flashings and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Three Mills, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Before and after the survey
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Let us know what you want to see
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
How we price drone roof surveys
To price your survey, we look at:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The size of the roof
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.
Helping us price your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
The survey, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice
When you need someone else

- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
