Drone roof survey in Vanbrugh Park Estate: what you get
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are plant growth and moss on the roof and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Vanbrugh Park Estate, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Drone roof surveys around Vanbrugh Park Estate
The flight restriction zone around London City Airport comes within about 1 mile of Vanbrugh Park Estate. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
If you run a business near Lewisham Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most. If you live in an older home near St John the Evangelist's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wildwood Montessori School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Vanbrugh Park Estate
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Vanbrugh Park Estate?
London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.
Is drone flying allowed in Vanbrugh Park Estate?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Vanbrugh Park Estate is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking. For a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can be seen safely, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a visit in Vanbrugh Park Estate, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. On the day, the roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Leave side gates unlocked
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent

Why get it checked now?
On a tall building, problems are frequently found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. In Vanbrugh Park Estate, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Tips from our surveys
You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Let us know what you want to see
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
