What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks

About our drone roof survey in Wainscott

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. Common reasons to book are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

Older cottages and houses around Wainscott may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we do, step by step

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Parking around Wainscott is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Advice

Wainscott: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Wainscott is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Will you come out to Wainscott?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What happens next?

You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details as you book.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Wainscott?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It is useful for planning maintenance over the years. With lower homes, common in places like Wainscott, there is little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What you get with us

How we price drone roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.

Getting in touch

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The property’s address and postcode

Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us some details about the property and we will point you to the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. We record the signs of age we can see.

Drones, thermal imaging and Wainscott roofs

Wainscott is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

If you look after a building such as Wainscott Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Restoration House, about 1.7 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wainscott. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Wainscott is about 2 miles north of Rochester, in Medway. We visit Wainscott as part of our work across Medway. Our Medway coverage includes Wainscott. There is also a page for Maidstone.

Here we cover the ME2 and ME3 postcode area for drone roof surveys. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Hoo Road, Holly Road and Leigh Road or anywhere close by, we can help. We also cover the places around Wainscott: Upper Upnor (1 mile south-east), Lower Upnor (1 mile east), Chattenden (1 mile north-east), Cooling Street (2 miles north) and Hoo St Werburgh (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Gillingham (4 miles south-east), Chatham (4 miles south), Rainham (5 miles south-east), Luton (3 miles south), Park Wood (6 miles south-east) and Lordswood (5 miles south).

Near you in Wainscott

We work in homes and buildings around Temple School, Broomhill Park and The Hundred of Hoo Academy, among other places. Nearby too are Royal Oak pub (0.6 miles south-west) and Former Ordnance Store At Chatham Gun Wharf (1.8 miles south). The nearest railway station is Strood station, roughly 1.1 miles south-west of the centre. A little further out are Upnor Castle (0.7 miles south-east) and Huguenot Museum (1.6 miles south). Green spaces nearby include Rede Common and Gad's Hill.

When to book a survey in Wainscott

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters

The streets around a church like St Philip & St James are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
