About our drone roof survey in West Studdal
Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a small place like West Studdal, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Leave it or get it looked at?
On a tall building, problems are frequently found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

What we look for on each type of roof
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Questions from West Studdal
Is West Studdal within the area you cover?
Yes. West Studdal is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Is my home in West Studdal listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
When does the report arrive?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
How long will you be at the property?
Typically, it takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
What’s the best way to book?
Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. We won’t fly in high wind or heavy rain. If the weather turns, we will discuss another date.
The survey, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like West Studdal, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
Booking a survey

What a survey costs
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
Prices start from £150, with VAT included, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.
What to tell us when you get in touch
What helps most when you contact us:
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The property’s address and postcode
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Drone roof surveys in West Studdal: local notes
West Studdal is within about 5 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Older houses across Kent frequently have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
With Walmer Castle about 4.2 miles east, the area around West Studdal has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. Take an older house close to East Studdal Church Hall: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
West Studdal is about 4 miles west of Deal, in Kent. Roofs in West Studdal get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Kent. West Studdal is one of the towns and villages in Kent where we work. There is also a page for Canterbury.
