Signs you need a drone roof survey in Wootton
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
If you look after a building such as Wootton-By-Woodstock Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Wootton
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are flashings that have come away and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.
In a small place like Wootton, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.
What we need to know
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Anything about access we should know
- The property’s address and postcode
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How the survey works
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Wootton, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so call 07833 053749 or email us with the details.
Advice
Wootton questions
Is my home in Wootton listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover smaller places like Wootton?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
How long will you be at the property?
It usually takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. It shows what’s on the outside. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation often show first from inside, so we check the loft too where we can.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
What happens next?
The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Wootton
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Older cottages and farmhouses around Wootton can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Drone roof surveys around Wootton
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
Blenheim Palace, about 2.5 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wootton. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Checking the roof from the ground
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
