Gomshall questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Gomshall?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Gomshall?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Gomshall as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Can you find where water is getting through my flat roof?
The survey covers the covering and all the details where leaks usually begin, and photograph anything that could be letting water in. Where the source isn’t obvious, a roof leak investigation or electronic leak detection may be the next step.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
Do you survey commercial flat roofs?
Yes. Offices, units, shops and blocks of flats are all part of our work. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size and access, so please call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
How do I book a survey in Gomshall?
To book, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Flat roof survey in Gomshall: what you get
A flat roof survey looks at the covering, the edges, the outlets and the details where the roof meets walls and rooflights. We cover felt, mastic asphalt, EPDM rubber, GRP fibreglass and single-ply roofs. It suits a small roof over an extension or garage as well as a large one over flats, offices or units. The findings go into a written report with photos, setting out the defects and what we’d recommend. Typical surveys look at loose or cracked edge trims and blisters and bubbles in the covering, across single-ply membranes, EPDM rubber and felt flat roofs.
In a small place like Gomshall, a flat roof can stand in the open, which is hard on edges, upstands and joins in the covering. Felt roofs, which often last around 15–20 years, usually show it first. Rubber and GRP last longer, though trims and joints still need a look. On an exposed roof, the edges tend to go first.
Where we cannot see part of the flat roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Honest limits
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- A promise that the roof will not leak in future
- Whether old sheeting or boards contain asbestos
- What’s under the membrane without opening it up
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- GRP fibreglass
- EPDM rubber
- Upstands and outlets
- Felt flat roofs
- Mastic asphalt
- Single-ply membranes
Roof by roof
EPDM rubber
An EPDM rubber roof is typically one large sheet, bonded to the deck. We check the laps, the edges, the corners and any punctures.
Felt and built-up roofs
Many extensions, garages and dormers have a felt roof laid in layers. The survey checks for blisters, cracks, open laps and bare patches where the surfacing has worn.
Prices for flat roof surveys in Gomshall
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Which survey package you book
- House, block, shop or office
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.
What to tell us when you contact us
A little information up front helps. It’s useful to include:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Gomshall
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Gomshall. To discuss a property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Can I check my roof myself?
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

Flat roof surveys around Gomshall
Hatchlands Park, about 2.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Gomshall. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Mixed in with those pitched roofs are lots of flat ones, over rear extensions, dormers, garages and shops.
If you look after a building such as Shere CofE Aided Infant School, a large flat roof with a good many outlets and rooflights has many places where a membrane can fail. If you own a rental within reach of Gomshall station, the flat roof over a let home is worth a look before it becomes a tenant complaint. The streets around a church like The Church of St James are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, the flat roofs on later extensions tend to wear out long before the main roof.

What happens on the day
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Around Gomshall, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

- We view the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof where it is safe to do so.
- We check and photograph the covering, the falls, the upstands, the outlets, the trims and any rooflights.
