Gutter survey in Aldington Frith: what you get
We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Aldington Frith and right across London and South East England. We inspect everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows and from the roof space. Time on site normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. The written report follows, with photographs and recommendations. We survey fascias and soffits, eaves gutters and downpipes, and common reasons people get in touch are leaves and moss blocking gutters and blocked outlets and hoppers.
Some older homes in villages like Aldington Frith are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

What we’re asked to look at in Aldington Frith
Many gutter joints depend on rubber seals or sealant that age. Plastic gutters move with heat and cold so their joints can start to leak. On cast iron, joints can rust and open up where the paint has failed.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Soffits marked by water
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
Living close to Poulton Wood is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn.
Questions to ask before booking
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- What exactly goes into their report
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
Gutter surveys in Aldington Frith: local notes
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Westenhanger Castle, about 5 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Aldington Frith. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If you let a flat or house near Ham Street station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. Shop and office owners around Ashford Designer Outlet may find that a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks.

Questions from Aldington Frith
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Aldington Frith?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
I let a flat near Ham Street station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the building, including who will give access on the day.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Do you survey underground drains?
No. We check above-ground rainwater only, from the gutters to the bottom of the downpipes. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we’ll tell you.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
How much is a gutter survey?
The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form for a price.
Can you tell me if my old gutters contain asbestos?
No, that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor. On buildings from before 2000, we flag materials that could contain it so you can arrange that check.
Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
How the survey changes by roof type
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Joints that have pulled apart are a common fault on plastic gutters. We record each one we can see.
Cast iron gutters
Cast iron tends to fail at the joints and fixings. Cracks, rust and leaks are recorded as far as we can see them.
What a survey costs
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- The roof’s overall size
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Basic, Standard or Premium
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details. We will confirm the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

How the survey works
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes about one to two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Older roofs in small places like Aldington Frith can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Before we arrive
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
